I do not know if the BBB can do anything as it originates in another country!
I am not in the USA so I have little experience of the BBB.
A phone call to them could find out if they are in a position to offer any assistance.

As you say the cops would probably not do anything, but this will cover you if they are investigating this scammer, following a possible complaint by another victim! and if this leads to you then you would want to be in the clear!

We have read reports of victims being jailed for trying to pass these dud cheques! even though they were obviously a victim not a scammer!
Not a happy outcome!

Although the risk is small it would be wise to cover yourself!
