Need a bit of advice
Ok, a relative of mine Angel (40 yo, lesbian) has become a victim of this scam. So many people have tried to tell her that it is a scam. The last time I tried to tell her, we would get into a fight about it, and we wouldn't talk for a few days. So far, she has put insane amounts of money into it, I have no idea what to do.
It all started on Myspace, some girl named Juliet (supposedly from south Africa) contacted Angel. Juliet first told Angel that she had something very valuable in a safe deposit box at some bank, and that in order to get it out, they needed a large sum of money. If I recall correctly, it was like- five thousand dollars or so. Juliet told Angel if she helped, she would be able to sell it and give Angel some money from the profits. Angel sent money...
Then, it lead to Juliet being framed, being sent to jail, being kidnapped, kept from leaving Africa by the law, United States embassy would not allow her in cause not enough money> so more money sent by Angel. I keep telling Angel over and over, it is completely obvious what this is about. Angel sends a ticket, and some money- Juliet... on the way to airport, gets mugged, and the money stolen.
Angel- says she is completely in love with Juliet. I suppose they have some lengthy and 'heart' warming conversations to keep the scam going. Angel is falling head over heals, and she refuses that Juliet is scam, and that she is using her. Now Angel wants to go over to Africa to help 'save' this girl?! Yes, stupid I know!
My biggest question would be- how can I help Angel- is there a law agency I can contact, to help this situation? I cannot confront her easily. Angel may have some sort of psychological problem, but I think severing the connection between her and the scam, would be the best route first. What do I do?
