I recently signed up for an email account using an old email address that I had several years ago. I haven't checked the emails or have used the account for other websites since signing up for it again, yet today I found 45+ emails from Africans and Asians. I've heard of the Nigerian scams that offer a so-called "$1,000,000" payday (they're among the emails as well), so I'm not afraid of those messages. What I am nervous of, though, are the 30+ emails to me from men and women on [.Ethiopianpersonals.]EthiopianPersonals.com: Personals and dating for single Ethiopian men and Ethiopian women, Ethiopia singles] out of the blue that have 8+ people looking to "flirt" and speak with me. Where in the crap did these people acquire my email, and I wonder, since it's supposedly a personal's website, are things like my full name and location on display too? I have family in Ethiopia, but I've never gone on those sort of websites, lessknown one where I'm looking for companionship from the third-world!! How would these people get my email address (not unless some dip-brain family member listed my email address way-back-when on their "buddy" list)??? There's also some crap about a Bank of America account and a Paypal account that needs to be updated (if only these Africans knew the truth about my finances, they wouldn't bother to type out the pseudo-British dialect in their emails via the estate of "Lord Forkensquire" from "Uzbeckenshire").
A part of me is very nervous about these emails, and I don't know if I'm overreating or what. Should I just delete the useless email account, or should I keep it in case I have to delete an account on another website? Please help. Last edited by Mercenary; 02-21-2008 at 06:57 PM. I edited the mentioned link because when someone would click on that his pc could be effected from a trojan. Fortunatelly I have very good protection. It is possible someone to send you an inviutation link (containing a virus) even this site seems as an usual dating site. Use "contact us" and ask to delete your account. Also delete your e-mail account and then check your computer and if you find any threat make multiple format and restore your records.
