Default New here --

HI All,

I'm new here and found this site because of a letter and check my husband
received in the mail.

The letter says he has won $120,000 in a drawing of all the names of credit card holders in North America. The check is for $3800.20 to assist him in
financing his clearance fees.

It is written on Texas First Bank of Friendswood Texas.

Now, my mother always said if it sounds too good to be true it must be..so...I know this isn't true..or at least suspect so. Any idea about this one?

Our mail came late today but I did discover this is a real bank by doing a Google search.

Thanks!
Alisa

To Alisa:

Your mother is right. The letter is a Nigerian lottery scam. There is no win, and the check is counterfeit. I suggest you use 419legal's search engine to look for a similar letter in their database.

Scroll up to the menu bar located at the top of this screen page. Click on the "Search" tab, then type the lotto's name into the bar and hit "Go." There may be no match, since these scammers change the lotto name and letter format regularly. If links appear, open them because you may find an example close to the one your husband received.

Your husband will be asked to deposit the $3800.20, and wire a certain amount back to the sender. When the check doesn't clear - it sometimes takes a month to receive the bad news - you and your husband will be liable for the amount wired to a scammer.
