Default Posting Guidelines

First of all I want to say what a great job 419legal is doing and how much we are achieving, when I 'Google' the subject line or scammers name from an email it regularly links to a posting on one of our pages and being a member has certainly made me aware that there is a way of hitting back at the scammers who are constantly looking for new victims. I don’t know how long 419legal has been running but from the new posts it is obvious that we are still growing and adding new members every day. From a members point of view the site is very user friendly with the displayed posts easy to read and simple to add. My only concern is, that because we are growing so fast and the pages in each section are increasing on a daily basis a specific posting may not be found by a visitor even though some of them may use the search option simply because as members we are all individuals and therefore post the scams in different ways. Are we approaching the time when we need to agree a common posting format for the title? A simple one could be the original email subject line / original email sender’s name. In the case of lottery scams and job scams it would probably be easier to simply use the name of the lottery or the company. I suggest these as I always check to see if a scam has already been posted before I go ahead and post it but the 'search' option does not always seem to be able to locate earlier identical postings simply because many of us give the same scam a different title. What are other member’s feelings on this, or do you have any other suggestions? We as members have probably seen the majority of the common scams already or know the warning signs to look for, but we need to be certain that anyone who visits our site can easily and quickly find the information that they are looking for.

Cool

Dear Patrick1

You have right for different way every member posts here.
This is not problem of instructions (they exist in every Scam letter archive category) but problem because noone reads them before post a new thread.

I copy part of them

How to submit a scam letter:

Simply register for membership, which is free. After registering for membership you can log into the website and make posts in our forum.

Simply go to the scam letter archive and click on “New Topic”

Copy the scam letter you have received and paste it into the large message box. As title you can use the name of the scammer, business or lottery as it appears in the scam letter.

Then click submit.

Default Titles

Maybe thats the problem mercenary, we all need to agree one way of setting a title for every type of scam. Giving members three options is creating individual choices from the start, then there is the issue of multiple postings of the same scam and even I have been guilty of that even though I usually search before I post anything. But then if you make too many rules members will just give up and not post at all and that is the last thing we want to happen added to that a look through the archives clearly shows that some members are obviously unclear about what group some of the scams even fall into. Got any suggestions mercenary ?

The rule is one and clear. For Lottery archives name of the lottery, Employment archives company name, General sender's name.
Moderators or Senior Members must have authority to move in correct place and edit titles, is one solution.

We are trying to increase visibility to this matter (see Posting guidelines)as it of the most importance. The Title of the posts should most reflect what somebody looking for the scam on the internet might type into a search engine. As suggested and discussed:

For Lottery archives name of the lottery

Employment archives: company name and/or General sender's name.

419Emails: Email Title

Please make other suggestions so that they can be added to our posting guidelines.

As for multiple posts on the same topic. I assume that some of these are created as the user did not find the original posts. Some times these are beneficial (as they have different title variants which results in more search traffic), but for the most part I think it is better to have the posts consolidated or under one thread as they are more likely to receive a response. Moderators are now being given the ability to edit threads in this manner.
