Call Forwarding Scam

Instead of trying to sell something over the phone, or get access to personal information the call forwarding scam tries to convince consumers or businesses to help them forward a phone call. In the oldest form of this scam the caller posing as a phone-company technician. These Good, if gullible, Samaritans end up stuck with expensive long-distance or collect-call charges on their phone bills because when someone forwards a call to a long-distance, collect, or other pay-service phone number, the charges for those services are placed on their account, and not to the phone from which the call 1st originated.

The call forwarding scam is also referred to as the 72# scam or *72 scam due to the fact that these are the telephone codes commonly used by individuals and businesses to forward phone calls. The code may also be 90# scam with some business telephone systems.
