Cramming & Slamming

There are 2 common forms of telephone fraud known as Slamming and Cramming. Both are illegal. Slamming means changing a consumer’Cs long-distance carrier without consent. Cramming is adding to an existing service without permission.
To avoid being this phone scam carefully read your telephone bill each month to check that you have the service you sign up for and only those services. Consumers often don’t catch the changes until they’ve been overcharged for months. Read the fine print on any contest form or coupon offer and be sure you fully understand it before you fill it out and sign.

Also, be sure to use caution if you don’t recognize the area code of a telephone number you are dialing. Check your phone book for the list of area codes to find out where the number is. Hang up if the message on the other line sounds unfamiliar or suspicious.
