Fake Scam Web sites

Some online scams use phony but official-looking Web sites, particularly those that perpetrate investment scams. The North American Securities Administration Association provides an example of a bogus regulatory agency that claims to handle internet fraud complaints. A site such as this looks quite real, but the true purpose is actually to harvest personal information from gullible consumers. Getting taken in by such sites is very easy, so doing a comprehensive Web search is important in order to avoid them.

Keep in mind that the URL of a legitimate site will definitely be https-the s is for secure. The entire point of the vast majority of online fraud is designed to get access to the targets’ personal information, such as bank account information and social security numbers in order to commit online identity theft. Be absolutely certain of whom you give access to this information.
