Turkish Hackers hack, attack ICANN with Phishing Scam

Turkish hackers launched a phishing attack against domain owners at Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) early this week. The attack sent emails in the name of ICANN’s Resolution Department, ICANNResolve and asked domain owners to avail of an upgraded service by registering at a link given inside the mail. It added an element of urgency by telling them the upgrades will be issued on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The attack is being attributed to Turkish Group “NetDevilz“. The group has been linked to 31 other cyber attacks this year.
After setting off the phishing attack, on Thursday the group went on to deface websites belonging to ICANN and the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). It wiped away the contents from the websites replacing it with the group’s name and the following message:
You think that you control the domains but you don’t! Everybody knows wrong. We control the domains including ICANN! Don’t believe us? Haha

The affected websites are icann.com, icann.net, iana.com, and iana-servers.com.
