Smishing Scam descends on Central National Bank customers

Smishing, a variation of the phishing scam that uses mobile text messages to swindle, is targeting customers of Central National Bank in Enid, Oklahoma.

Starting last Friday, several of the banks customers have been calling local police and their bank recounting how they received SMS’es alerting them that their accounts at CNB was closed for security reasons.

Your Central National Bank of Enid account has been blocked for security reason. Please call us at (866) 281-9288.

: informed the message.

Customers calling on the number are asked to provide account access codes and confidential account information like account number, PIN number and passwords to prove ownership of the account.

Using account information so obtained, scammers are able to divert and use funds from them.

Authorities are surprised at the success of the scam.

CNB President and CEO R.S. Baker said:

Although this is not a new scam, apparently because it involved text messaging, some individuals did give out their confidential information.

Customers who want to report the scam are asked to call the bank’s customer service at 233-3535.
