Phone Scam frets Michigan Bank customers

Customers of Isabella Bank, Mt. Pleasant (MI) were singled out as prospective victims by perpetrators of a phone scam, reported the Mt. Pleasant Police Department. Elderly clients of the bank were especially warned to beware of the scam as it seems to be especially intended for them.
Police said the fraudsters are making calls to bank customers with the idea of tricking them to give away confidential account information. They would already have a little information about their victim’s bank account. By presenting these, fraudsters are asking their victims to confirm the account was theirs by divulging the bank account number or other such confidential information.
Fraudsters hope people will take the bait and give away their secret account information thus throwing open the gates to their savings to them.
Investigators have not been able to make out yet where the calls were being made from. With no immediate breakthroughs in sight, they sought to caution residents of the scam:
We want to remind people about the different scams out there and not to give out information about bank accounts or bank cards
said the Department’s Public Information Officer Dave Sabuda.
