Fake Wal-Mart Survey Scam quizzes Utah residents

A fake Wal-Mart survey is trying to scam residents in Utah out of their credit card money. The scam is luring victims with a prize worth $100 as bait to achieve its end. It sets up the scam with a spiked email.

Claiming to come from Wal-Mart, the email informs that the company is out with a new promotional campaign. As a part of the campaign, people are given the news that they have just won a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from the company. All they have to do to win the prize is to click on a link inside the email and complete a two-step survey run by the company.

Readers who comply are treated to questions typically asked in customer surveys. As soon as they complete, the scam slips in the wicked part of its routine. In two questions, it asks users to submit their credit card number and its PIN number.

Needless to mention, the site users are hustled to is a fraudulent replica of Wal-Mart’s official site. Those who give away their credit card info here will handover whatever credit is available in their cards to unscrupulous fraudsters.

Wal-Mart is understandably peeved at the scam. The company said it is not running any promotional campaign of this nature. It was just not its style to ask for credit card numbers and their PIN from its patrons, it averred.
