$2.5 Million Scam Hits Utah
Bad News for Salt lake city as ‘The state of Utah’ patently been scammed for $2.5 million. According to search warrant reports ,Salt Lake City’s 3rd District Court states that , later in month of august vendor number for the design and construction department pertaining to the university of utah, was stolen.
Criminals were smart enough to forge the signature of department director and after completing their whole documentation process , it was presented to the state of utah , thus to manipulate the account information details . These scammers sponsored invoices through internet on behalf of department and when they were paid , the money was transfered to a bank account in texas.
The warrant says that once the money moved to Texas, several checks were written.
After learning this fraud ,bank officials sung in to action and suspended $1.8 million of the funds. But on the dark side it was not possible to estimate hoe much money was recovered .
John Reidhead, the director of the Utah Division of Finance, has said procedures have been added to verify direct deposit information and prevent future fraud.
