Americans Warned About Tax Email Scams

Here comes the tax season , and scammers are back to their business .It is clear that these seasonal criminals are have already cook the tactics to trapped the tax payers through fake email attachments, as tax filing activities booms. In a significant move Internal Revenue Service is issuing warning to U.S tax payers against latest type of scams pertaining to tax filing , targeting through email , as cut off date approaches .

Nancy Mathis ,official spoke person Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said there is sudden growth in the phishing emails from January to April during tax filling season.

How this tax email scam works seems very interesting.

An email is represented from IRS or Treasury Department. It tries to mislead the user by saying there is error with their tax filing, or that they are eligible for a tax rebate or benefit from the government economic stimulus package. It then directs the user to site which in turn prompts or tries to gain personal information,financial information such as Social Security, bank account and credit card numbers that can be used to commit identity theft.

But (IRS) Strictly forbids, any direct communication via email asking for personal information or financial information, confirms police.

A Warning to this concern is already issued by U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), to citizens that spoofed the IRS, offering recipients stimulus package payments.
Phishing emails or incidents can be reported at IRS Web site at www.irs.gov
