In a recent break through ,sweepstakes scam can resurface online in every aspect of email or even through phone calls warns authorities.
Residents should be aware and careful while accepting any cheques ,warns Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
If sweepstakes scam is back ,elderly or senior citizens can be worst victims ,according to officials.
Some of the silent characteristics of sweeptake scams :
– Sweep take scam attracts envelops without return address
Envelop deals with Canadian postage stamp.
- - A letter is sponsored by scam artists and promptly request not to reveal winning prize to anyone for confidential reasons.
– A check is Sponsored to cover taxes, fees or other costs needed to exchange the prize check is manipulated with different name and never pulled in the name of sweepstakes.
– Recipients are directed to get fast through the agent in order t exchange the wining prize and send money,no sooner after depositing check.
– But officials strictly warn that there is no question about paying when you win any prize and same issues directives in case if you receive any letter representing from legal sources.
– The directives lead to certain verification of facts in order to avoid falling victim to such sweeptake scams.
Rules of the game should be known before playing the game ,i.e confirm the rules of sweeptakes.
–Confirm if any entry fee is required as per law Last but not least to check if contest, is asking for any personal information like bank details ,credit card or social security number . Beware never to provide and fall victim.
