Utahns Charged in Mortgage Scam

Mortgage scam Mastermind are finally in grip of Grand Jury ,A jury which inquires into accusations of crime and to evaluate the grounds for indictments ,accused Three Utah men in a mortgage fraud scam that targeted millions of dollars and left a trail of foreclosures and falling home values in its wake.

Ronald Haycock Sr., Lyle Smith and Jamis Johnson were in on a scam that recruited “straw buyers,” or people with good credit willing to take out loans for homes they normally couldn’t afford.

The scam artists conned many homes in utah,Davis and Salt Lake counties. The Professional fraud artists were to framed a crook plan to buy houses in distress, inflate the appraisals and sell them fast.

“The suspects would execute the following tactics :

fudge,loan application information, Exaggerate appraisals, or modify or manipulate straw buyers’ income — sometimes as much as 400 to 500 percent inflation,” according U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman. i.e somebody who purchases property for another person in order to conceal the identity of the real purchaser

The scammers would then siphon excess proceeds from the loans — an amount investigators believe today totals $2.8 million.

Several lenders are listed as victims in the scheme, as are the straw buyers who were paid between $7,000 and $20,000 for their participation.

But global melt down and slow economic condition foiled their plans.
The men are charged with mail and wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy, which carry 20 years in prison and up to $1 million in fines.
