My aunt just received such a letter, April 20, 2009. She’s being asked to contact Lorraine Gregory at 866-538-8760 ext 7542 to make arrangements to claim her Publisher’s Clearinghouse money. The letter states she has won second prize and since she did not respond to the first notification, she is now in danger of being ineligible to claim her prize. This sense of urgency may cause people to act recklessly. CAUTION!

    Concerned Citizen:

A 96yr old lady my sis takes care of received a letter stating she won 7 million dollars as the second place winner. They sent a check from Emerson Hotel & Restaurant Emerson, NJ. Her representative was named Mr. Harry Freeman 1-888-333-0186 Ext.1. I tried looking this number up online and it does not exist. I just saw on 60 minutes how people were getting scammed by working for companies online only in regards to payroll, etc… I figured this letter was a fake since it didn’t have the typical logos of PCH and the normal stuff you receive with it. Scammers are very evil for preying on innocent people in this economic crisis. How dare they!!! Bunch of xxxx losers!!!! Hope what comes around goes around and they get it hard 10 fold!

    PCH Pfishing Scam:

I received a letter which looks fake mailed from Canada and dated April 23, 2009. This letter says final notice and tells me I have won second place prize of 1 million dollars. It asks to call Sonia Fortenberry at 866-538-8760 ext 7801.
BEWARE!!!! I doubt highly PCH would be sending you a letter telling you you won something but they can not award you since you have not replied to them. Crazy.

I recieved the exact same letter as Linda Q. verbatum. This is a scam. I looked up addresses with the bbb, and checked the name of where the check came from, I plan on calling the bank that it’s supposedly issued through and the police. The address that I typed in brought up a list of NY hotels, a little strange. be warned, these checks look very real, and have a legitamate bank name on them. please check with the real PCH before you fall for this scam

I received the same letter as Sally Cooper (verbatum). This is a scam — they’ll ask for money. It’s also even more suspicious since they are calling from Canada and asking you to transfer funds over there (I’m assuming that there is less recourse if the fraud takes place here). Anyway — listen to everyone’s advice here — don’t go for it!
