809, 284 or 876 Area Codes are Scams
Saugus residents must be careful while receiving phone calls from 809, 284 or 876 area codes because certainly area codes are scams and defrauding people .
A Phone scam is calling up or emailing consumers ,urging them to call phone number with an 809, 284 or 876 area code ,in order to collect a prize, and sometimes even uses phony tactics by asking to check out their sick relatives.
Infact when consumers called up the number to investigate, their calls either got connected to outside the United States, often in Canada or the Caribbean, and charged with international call rates.
Initially consumers are unaware about the international call rates charged to them , but they are certainly shocked after receiving their bills .
The modus operandi of scam artists (caller) is simply to mislead or tricked the people by calling them from outside the United states , mostly from Canada or the Caribbean.
While Consumers are advised to file Complaints about this and/or related phone scams online with the Federal Communications Commission at http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm, or call 1-888-225-5322

It is important to note that those area codes aren’t scams by themselves (e.g. if you have a relative in the Dominican Republic, you should still call them when you want to). The catch is that most people in the United States assume that the number is in the United States, and that they won’t have to pay the international rates (my telephone company charges up to 58 cents/minute for those area codes).
It’s a good idea to look up the area code before calling back a phone number; you can do it at sites like http://www.WhereCall.com. Or, you can enter the whole number into your favorite search engine (in the 809-555-1212 format), which can also turn up useful information if it is a scam.
