Recession Times-Deposits Do Matter!
Relationship Banking-A term which is almost synonymous with banking firms now was not so familiar during the boom times. Traditional deposits are now seeing the light of the day unlike in times of high economic growth.
Deposits accounts have all of a sudden started to look great, with big players such as Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley now like to be known more as bank holding companies. The main reason behind such a drastic change of events is the low-risk aspect associated with deposits. The way deposits function is a simple process and anyone even a bit familiar with financial terms can make out that deposits increase the asset base and in turn reduce leverage.
A couple of years back, deposits seems to be the financial exoskeleton for every household and or organization. Then the boost in the economy diverted individuals and companies from investing in deposits to the more lucrative and high-yielding fields.
One can see a classic example of ‘history repeating itself’ with deposits again resurfacing and becoming the choice of the majority. Major financial institutions and firms are exploring new strategies focusing on deposits and ways to promote growth through such deposits. Banking institutions are again becoming customer focused and ‘customer service’ is attaining newer heights.
The worrying part however is that like every other investment or saving scheme, deposits also attract equal attention from scammers and fraudsters as from genuine finance professionals. In fact at times it becomes difficult to clearly distinguish one from the other.
Although deposits are risk-insured upto a certain extent, it is important to ensure it stays that way and this can be accomplished through the installation of smart fraud-detection tools.
Economic growth is a bell-curve, and if the economy today is experiencing a slower or even a negative growth rate, we must be assured that the graph will take an upward turn. Until then employing the traditional and conventional methods to our finances will prove to be a wise option.
