Rules and regulations governing Telemarketing Companies
Telemarketing and the pros and cons associated with it are known to most of us. But very few of us actually have an idea about the rules which such telemarketing companies must follow and even lesser number of people are aware of the fundamental rights involving telemarketing and a normal individual.
Rules and regulations governing telemarketing companies differ from state to state but the federal telemarketing rules are the same. Some of such federal telemarketing rules and regulations are as below:
1.Victims of telemarketing fraud can contact state law enforcement officials and it is their duty to assist any individual who reports such a fraud or scam.
2.Any telemarketer cannot withdraw money from your account, unless they have your free consent and authorization.
3.Hiding facts and lying for any purpose, is an illegal activity on part of a telemarketer. Such an activity is a punishable offence.
4.Telemarketers are bound by law to disclose every fact eg. What is the purpose of the call, name of the caller, name of the company, product being sold, payment methods, rules and conditions in the event of cancellation of order etc.
5.In case a telemarketer informs you of a prize that you have won, full details have to be furnished and no purchase or fee can be demanded in such cases.
6.Normal working hours apply to telemarketers ie 8 am to 9 pm. No calling is allowed outside of working hours.
7.Any individual who has specifically asked the telemarketing company NOT to call him/her again, is bound by state and federal laws to abstain from calling that person again.
8.Lastly, involvement with any fraud telemarketing company (irrespective of you knowing the rules and regulations) will be considered an illegal activity on your part and will be entitled to appropriate lawful activity.
