Types of Stimulus Scams
Some of the popular stimulus fraud schemes and stimulus scams which have emerged in recent times are as follows:
1.Stimulus checks are sent to unsuspecting victims and in turn a ‘toll-free’ number asks the victims to wire a certain amount of money. Innocent people tend to wire the requested money only to realize that the check is a fraud.
2.E-mails advertising a subscription towards a magazine and in turn claiming that those who subscribe will be eligible for a stimulus check.
3.Scammers sending emails by using names of legitimate agencies asking for personal information so that the stimulus check can be deposited into the bank accounts.
4.Small businesses are also targeted by informing them that they could be eligible for a tax rebate provided they send the details regarding the firm’s bank account.
All types of stimulus scams can be avoided by knowing the fact that no state or federal agency will contact you via email or a telephone call. Also, such agencies will never ask for any kind of personal information.
