Credit Card Holder
Received an automated phone message from Credit Card Holders. The offer was a reduced 6.9% interest rate. An article in Scam Alerts, titled Credit Card Scam Making Its Way Around The State, described the same telephone scam I experienced. It said these identity thieves gather personal financial information when a person takes the bait. Credit Card Services and Card Services are other company names they use.
It's my understanding that the only way a credit card company reduces an interest rate is through negotiation. You can do it yourself, or a legitimate credit counseling agency does it for you. To educate yourself on the subject, click on BBB Alerts & News. This page tells you how to check out an agency, what is involved in making a debt management plan and points out red flag warnings. At the bottom of the screen, the bbb plugs Clearpoint Financial Solutions, Inc., their national non-profit organization.
In addition, there are 151 other articles listed under their finance/credit section. If you are interested in learning more, click on BBB. Open the "Consumer/Business Tips" link, located in the upper left corner of bbb's home-page. You will find entry to finance/credit articles on this page.
Please file a complaint with your state's Attorney General's office, if these con artists call.
