I have yet to borrow money from a private lender for secured loans, but my little sister did recently. Just last week Sept. 5, 2008 she applied for a Secured loan for $10,000 through Westbrook-Financial (Westbrook-Financial.com). She was seeking a loan to pay for school related necesities. Westbrook supposidley matches the borrower with a private lender. The lender still has yet to be revealed. Westbrook's terms are as follows: Depending on how much money one wants to borrow, will determine how much the down payment will be. In her case she had to proove to them that she could come up with the first five payments which amounted to $789. When she initially sent in the down payment, she was told that she would be would be receiving a payment booklet in the mail and also the dispursement of th loan in full within 4-6 hours of them receiving the payment. It has now been a whole week and daspite her continuos efferts to make contact with Salina Tutt (Loan Agent), she has not received the loan dispursent and or a returned phone call or email regarding the agreement. When she calls the "24 hour" call center the calls are screened. The automated service automatically asks "who's speaking". Isn't that weird!!! Which means that her number obviously has been put on a list to not be answered. She did get through to someone once and when asked for her name, she was then immediately forwarded top the main voice mail system. Once again how weird!!!That $789 was her last and now she is left with nothing. She was planning to use some of the loan money to buy books, but now she will have to drop her classes for this semester.

Dear Lady T
Welcome to 419Legal. I am very sorry to hear that your little sister fell for the loan scam. I could not find words how to cheer her up and I wished I would have power to land them in jail. It is not your sister who did wrong things and the crooks should be accused. (1)I also regret to tell you that if the down payments were wired via Western Union, it is impossible to retrieve her money and it is gone to the scammers. (2) If Western Union was used to wire the money and if “Money Transfer Control Number” (MTCN) is yet in her possession, at least she could locate the place where the money was picked up. Please check it with the link below if she wants to trace it. https://wumt.westernunion.com/asp/or...country=global<---Click on here (3) Is website of the company you mentioned below?? Westbrook Financial Services<---Click on here However "URL" of the site doesn’t contain “-“ (Dash) between “westbrook” and “financial” ??? and the server of http://www.westbrook-financial.com/ doesn't exist on the internet when I search it???(might be taken down???) Quote:
(4) Finally we recommend her to report the case to the local police or law enforcement in her area together with all their informations like the contact telephone numbers, address and/or any documents she is holding now. The other experienced members in this forum would give you/her further advices when they find this post. Awareriskinc Last edited by Awareriskinc; 09-13-2008 at 03:52 PM. Reason: add & correct info |

Okay I haven't received an e-mail but my house just got a call. That's why I went looking for scams. They didn't go to the extreme of telling me that I needed to deposit $950 though. Instead they told me I was depositing $50 to charity and $50 was to make sure that I was who I said I was. It was a little entertaining for me because I kept and kept and kept asking questions, which I could tell he wasn't used to. I also kept asking him why they were giving me $6000. He told that the government had been doing it for over 15 years and that my house was selected along with 250 others. This I found hard to believe. Do you know were I live? Coweta, OK. I'll bet you still don't know were I live. Something that struck me as really odd was the fact that they were giving random people $6000 but asking for you to donate only $50 and then telling me that I would get it back. Basically either they are actually donating the money themselves. They even told me I would get a certificate for it. I'm waiting for the guy to call me back at four. That's going to be an entertaining conversation. He's waiting for me to call him from the Money Gram at Walmart. Oh and one more thing. They told me that it was tax free and if the government asked about it to tell them that I received it from a friend. Am I not receiving this money from the government? Won't they have records of it? The funny thing is. While I'm was waiting for their "conformation number", they would probably be spending my hundred bucks. There is no way I'm giving some random person my money.

Lol okay sorry guys. Misread what scam you were talking about. Well now you know about another one. Have any of you received the same calls? The scam I'm talking about is most likely somewhat new. I've only heard of money gram recently on commercials and how easy it is to transfer money and what not. Well apparently it's also a great way to steal money.
