Phishing detection is not as easy as it may seem. Phishers now have access to tools, technology and information which allow them to invent new and more efficient ways to acquire what they want.
For most of us, at first glance it may not be obvious as to what in our mailbox is not a legitimate e-mail from a organization with whom we have some business. Some of the links in the website will compel to click on that link, which will in turn take the unknowing e-mail user to a spoof website. The common elements of phishing are detailed below:
- The e-mail will contain logos and images belonging to the real site.
- The 'from-field' appears to be authentic but it is actually quite a simple task for a professional phisher to alter this field.
- There will be a link asking to submit your personal information by clicking onto that link. This will then route you to a different website. This site will not have the authorized site name or address onto it.
Other signs include spelling mistakes, percentage signs followed by numbers, or email headers which have nothing to do with the actual organization
