(1) The fastest way to get an answer about a scam is to conduct a site search. At the top of each screen page is a menu bar. Open the "Search" tab then type in a company or lottery name, like BMW Promotions or Underground Cash Network and click the "Go" button. Try an "Advanced Search" if there are no matches. Use all posts.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________ Important Note: Open and read all links that appear because the company or lottery name might not be in the title but within the message itself. You can use a "Search this forum," but it won't look through the entire website. __________________________________________________ ____________________________________ (2) The company may have changed its name once their scam was exposed, so it won't appear in 419legal's database. To get your message front and center, click on the "New Thread" tab - located at the top of each screen page (not found on home-page). (3) "Post Reply" or a "Quick Reply" are functions typically used to advise/inform/answer a cry for help by members. If you post your question as a Reply and not as a Thread, it may go unread. (4) I've copied the following information from a Thread in the Lottery Scam Letter Archives. __________________________________________________ ____________________________________ How to submit a scam letter: Simply register for membership, which is free. After registering for membership you can log into the website and make posts in our forum. Simply go to the scam letter archive and click on “New Topic” Copy the scam letter you have received and paste it into the large message box. As title you can use the name of the scammer, business or lottery as it appears in the scam letter. Then click submit. __________________________________________________ ____________________________________ By posting this information, someone might recognize the scam, though the company name differs. Or, include as much detail as you can about a business deal/job offer. This encourages 419legal members and volunteers to better advise/inform/answer a cry for help. (5) Post your initial Thread in 419 Introductions or in the Investigation Requests section under Is this fraud?/Is this a fraudulent website?/Is this a fraudulent e-mail? Include your country; how one reports an e-scam is approached differently in each country. (6) A more time-consuming way to hunt for an e-scam is to open and read links in Employment Scam Letter Archives and/or Employment Scam Discussions, for example. You might find the same email you received under a different company name. Use the forum that most closely relates to your subject, i.e. business deal in Fraudulent Business Opportunities, a job offer in the two forums already mentioned, a suspicious website in Fraudulent Website Alerts, etc. Also, check out Scam Alerts. (7) The FAQ tab, located in the menu bar at the top of each screen, explains how web features work. There are three areas that touch upon user questions. Under User Maintenance there is a Settings & Options section that tells you how to create & edit signatures, a profile, online information, etc. In General Forum Usage, you learn how to use certain features, like the "Search" tab. Reading & Posting Messages covers sending a private message to a 419legal member. (8) At the bottom of each page is 419 Library Comments. I call it a quick scam scan. Another neat feature - found just above 419 Library Comments - is Forum Jump. You can jump from one forum to another or return to the home-page by clicking on "Forums Home." (9) "User CP" is also on the menu bar. "CP" stands for Control Panel. This tab takes you directly to the Settings & Options, Private Messages, Subscription Threads and Miscellaneous screen page. Lots to do here. (10) To get the most from 419legal, try surfing Nigerian 419 Fraud News, General Fraud News and Scam Alerts. (11) Click on the Internet Fraud Tips link at the bottom of this Thread for information on all kinds of online scams.
