Junior member, MIKEY 146, posted the following Thread in 419 Introductions. It is the perfect example of how escrow fraud works.
__________________________________________________ ____________________________________ "beware this so called escrow service [ss-trading.net]. i just got scammed out of a 3600.00 usd diamond ring. the email address of the scammer is stefan_r60@mac.com and is in Spain. very simple scam actually came to ebay and found the ring he supposedly wanted for a present, must be sent 2 day fedex. looks real good because he wants you to join an escrow company called SS-Trading.net. Of course he has an excellent reputation with them and he has put funds in their supposed bonded accounts. Uk.Data.Com does not have a record of their so called bonding number. i now understand he has been doing his using several different names and using same escrow company." __________________________________________________ ____________________________________ Charlie White, a reporter for the Louisville Courier-Journal, includes these buyer beware tips in his article on low-price car sale scams. - The complete story is in 419legal's Scam Alerts forum - - The seller claims to have recently moved outside the United States and is selling the vehicle at a low price because of relocation. - The seller only communicates by e-mail and does not have a phone because of the recent move. - The seller uses poor grammar and misspells words in e-mail. - The seller cannot provide a verifiable title to the vehicle because of alleged paperwork problems at the motor-vehicle department. - The seller, who may claim to work for a major airline, says they will fly to the buyer's location if the buyer is serious. - The seller requests that the buyer send a $1,500 deposit to a guaranteed, 100 percent refundable escrow service. __________________________________________________ _____________________________________ Escrow fraud, which involves the sale of all kinds of merchandise (i.e. cars, boats, or jewelry), is on the rise.
