Thumbs down Scam!

This item posted on Craigslist is a TOTAL SCAM! RIGHT????

__________________________________________________ _____________

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, been real busy with work.

I think I covered everything in my ad, but again this is a 2006 Acura TSX 4dr Sdn AT 2.4L 4CYL runs perfect and has 25,344 miles on it. I always changed the oil every 3-4000 miles and it has never let me down. Everything works fine on it. I took an exceptional care of this vehicle and the buyer of the car will be very happy with it.

Had to relocate for job, and am forced to sell. I had to leave the vehicle behind in a storage unit in Maplewood, MN.

I have to get $5,150 for it. I priced it low since I moved and cannot keep paying insurance on it since I am not driving it.

View photos: currystrading - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Since I had relocated I have to sell the car only thru the eBay Purchase Protection Program. I have already enrolled and paid all the necessary fees. The program protects both me and the buyer.

Let me know if you want any more details.

Default Same thing here!!

Hi there,

First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my bike. I am selling it at this price ($2900) because I just finished the divorce with my husband. When the divorce has finished i own this bike. Now as a woman i don't need it. This bike is in excellent working condition, no scratches, flaws or any kind of damage, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions and comes with a clear title, 3 months transferable warranty.
From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request only secure pay, I prefer the payment to be done using eBay services.
We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at eBay and I have a purchase protection account for $20,000. The final price that I want for this bike is $2900 US including shipping and handling.
If you are interested please let me know.

Samantha

--------------------------------

This was a listing for a Harley Davidson valued at nearly $14k.

Maybe there is some semblance of reason to the value of $2900? Maybe at $3,000 the crime becomes more serious?

In either way, Im glad this page was here. I got this, and was considering do it, but I decided to search google about ebay secure pay and refundable payments before I went any further.

Dont get me wrong, I would have combed the "invoice" quite carefully when it got here, so make sure it was actually an ebay transaction. But this saves me even that extra step.

Is there any way to catch these people? This one is still on the hook waiting for me to give them my name and shipping address.

Default Nadine got me

So, this scammer actually got me and I am in the midst of filing as many reports as possible and contacting media, etc. I was really new to ebay and hadn't gotten anything big online before. All of your stories add up and sound the same. She has you send a moneygram for 2900 and you never hear anything again. I had actually checked out quite a few things; they all checked out, right down to the address the moneygram went to as an actual ebay address (actually their headquarters in San Jose, CA.) PLEASE, if you have any information or could assist in any way, please let me know. I am very poor and this really hurts my family. I am reporting this to various agencies and places, but so far nothing has come back to me.

Default Hey DAVET408

I just got wind of this scam.
Gee.., My jeep cherokee is famous !!
my name is kevin rea.
I actually bought this car less than two months ago from a dealer in Philadelphia.
In fact, i flew back there, picked it up and drove it home to southern california.
then, today, I got a phone call from a police office in Pullman Washington telling me that my jeep is involved in several scams on the internet.

wow... fame finally !!
(that's humor on my part by the way)

anyway, i can assure you that this car is not for sale.
i use it and drive it daily.
here is a picture of it.

anyway, sure is silly how people try and steal money from others.

I thought it was a misprint and expected her to reply as such (I was thinking it was really $12900, which was still a good deal). She responds stating that she IS selling the car for 2900, which she received in a divorce settlement and has no use for. I ran the VIN through Carfax and find she is in Florida. I had a few days off of work and thought I would fly down there and buy the car, spend a few days, then drive it back. I tell her so in an email (at this point we are only communicating via email). She responds that she would prefer to transact this through ebay secure pay.
I kept sending her emails to call me, and she responds that she has no phone. She sends me what appears to be an ebay page to submit payment. I insisted I woud fly down the very next day and still pay her the 2900 (she was offering to ship the car, which would cost 500). I knew it was a scam. I called ebay, as she was posing as an ebay seller. You think they cared? I was constantly transferred to a voicemail system. Here I had someone in the middle of perpetrating a fraud and they did not care. I told this to the operator that answered at ebay. Finally called the police inthe city where the car was registered and gave them the VIN. They told me the car was not registered to this 'Lorena Johnson' but to someone else. They thanked me and said they were going to inform the old owner.
Incidentally, after I first made contact with this 'Lorena Johnson' the car was removed from CraigsList (he/she must of thought they found a victim). I googled the VIN and found the same listing on Craigs List in Miami, from two weeks previous.

BEWARE OF NADINE DUFRESNE-TWOKIW@GMAIL.COM
I went throught the same senario pretty much word for word. I am located in Portland Oregon. The vehicle for sale was a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for 2900.00. It was located in PA and would be shipped at her cost. The persons name was Nadine Dufrense her e-mail was twokiw@gmail.com.
BEWARE it is to good to have been true.

Default $2900!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had that same Jeep Grand Cherokee Columbia 4WD listed in Los Angeles I emailed her last night got the divorce and ebay payment story this morning she even offered to ship it anywhere in the U.S. Thats when I thought that it was too good to be true! I called my dad for his advice but he was at work so i went back to craigs list and couldn't find the vehicle listed in Los Angeles area so I copied her name from the email she sent me and googled it. This is the first site that came up. Glad i read about her, now i can warn my dad who loves ebay and craigs list about her. (You would think that she would change her email?!?!) Since all of this has happened in less than twelve hours and she has no idea that i know she is a scam artist, i am very tempted to just send her emails and mess with her, make her think that i am still on the hook and just have fun with it!

If anyone has email correspondence with this person, please send it to JFISHEL1@WSU.EDU. I can gather it for my investigation! The more evidence the better chance!

This is a bit long, but here goes... I got an inkling that there was a scam floating about, and sure enough, ripoff report had articles about them, and once I saw this forum, I HAD to register to tell my bit. Be warned though, not ONLY craigslist, but places like Autotrader and cars.com are being hit with the same scam. I first ran across a nice looking Acura TL Type-S with an awkward description. It said it was salvaged but clear titled. I am located in SoCal, and the phone number was a 917 Area code, which is New York (My wonderful ex, really, she's nice and we're still friends and all, was from New York, and she had that area code, Bronx I think). So I call and I get forwarded immediately to Voicemail. I leave a message with name and call back number. I email the seller and receive an email from a one William Youssif, saying that yes the car is available and call a 619, or San Diego Area code phone number. Never mind that the original Autotrader listing says its in Los Angeles. I wait a bit longer, and literally a few hours after that email, I get on from a certain "Christine Rex" with this spiel:

"Hi ,
Thanks for being interested in buying my car. 2002 Acura TL Type S. It is in a good condition, no scratches, no damages, never been implicated in any accidents, no problems at the engine, runs very well. It has an 260hp 3.2 Liter V6 engine, 71,635 miles, clear title, a perfect car. The price is not negotiable , $5,500.00 firm. The only thing because i am selling it,because i divorced with my husband and after the divorce i own this car, now as a woman i don`t need it ( i don`t have driver license)... we will use only eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection to complete the sale. If you are interested and you have the funds available email me your full name and shipping address.
Regards,
Christine Rex"

What hit me as weird was the story about using eBay. Having been using eBay for 8 years, this struck me as odd. I never heard about a Vehicle protection service or about eBay handling ANYTHING outside of eBay (which they don't). So I email them back saying I only deal with local, and if aren't local, why the hell are you posting here? What are you, stupid? I keep looking and find a 2000 VW Jetta for about 1/2 it's BB price. I email the seller. Within a few hours I get this sob story:

"Hello there and thanks for your interest about my 2000 VW JETTA GLS VR6 AUTOMATIC .As you've probably already seen on my auction the price I'm looking for my car is $4,000 and this price includes the shipping to your home. The car has 76k miles .The VIN # is : 3VWSE29M2YM149124 .It has been garaged for the past 8 years and haven't been in the rain/snow since then. It gets driven on the weekends. The car is like new, no accidents history, clean interior and exterior, no scratches, no damages, no mechanical or engine problems. It has a clear title ready to be signed and notarized on your name. The car come at your address with all inspections made and a service book. Unfortunately a divorce is forcing me to sell it under market value. I will not require the money up front because you haven't seen/test driven the car yet. The sale will be thru eBay's Vehicle Purchase Protection Program, meaning that they will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition. You will be given a 5 days inspection period before

releasing the payment to me. The inspection period is starting from the day you will receive the vehicle. Craiglist recommend for all the buyers and sellers to use eBay VPP for safe transaction. If you wish to purchase it please provide me your full name and address so I can initiate the deal through eBay. I hope we can do business.

Best Regards,

Jetta Pics : jettacocos - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting "

Auction? What auction? I didn't see no stinking auction... When I heard the same story about a divorce etc, I did a quick google search on the words "ebay vehicle scam divorce" and the VIN and came across the scam info, as well as the same car polluting the craigslist website.
I've emailed another too good to be true Cobalt and Jetta to see if I get the same responses. With that in mind, I've wasted many hours looking for a good car, and I think the scammers owe me a single, non taxable, lump sum of $10,000,000 for my wasted time .
