My six year old daughter is very intrigued and curious about the internet. She knows and understands that having access to the internet is something different from just using a PC. I would like to introduce her to the net, but fear exposure to unnecessary and adult sites. How can I restrict her access to specific sites of her interest?

@Joanna, Welcome , Although this is a little bit out of our area of expertise I will try to assist you.
There are quite a few parental control programs on the internet and a search could reveal one that you are happy with, the only one I am aware of, as I live in Australia is "net nanny" I am sure there are many more to pick from. Some government and local council groups also offer free programs, I am unsure if there are any in your area but it would not hurt to check. The next question that only you can answer, is whether a six year old is ready for the internet, without a parent being online with her ? Maybe some of our members who are parents could advise on this? Personally I feel it is too early, but I am not really in a position to advise on this. So you will have to take this into consideration.

The internet is probably the most powerful inventions of mankind. If used for productive and educative purposes, it can be very beneficial. Your child will develop communication and typing skills and will learn to express herself by using the internet. You can log on to Kids Email | Safe Mail for Children for this purpose. The site allows parental control, monitoring control on your child’s usage of the net so that you can ensure a safe experience for your child.
