Default RESERVATION ENQUIRY fraud email?

This is the second such email I have recieved inquiring if I could make travel reservations. Has anybody recieved similar emails? I am suspicious as it indicates travel to my area but dosent specify what area that is. Also, why dosent he just work with an established travel provider.

I am Dave Smith from the UK,i would like to book
reservation for 4 people that will be coming for
vacation in your area on the 10th october to 20th
october 2007.

If you have vacancy for the specified period, give me
the total cost for the whole period of 2 single or double
rooms for 10 nights for 4 guest.

Also, confirm if you will accept major credit card for
your payment. Thank you and looking forward to
hearing from soon.

Kind Regards,

Not sure if I am right or not.
But feel tht this either the Following.

1) Fke Check Scam, Where as the Cheque is more thn the requied Amount-So Sorry! The Secetary wrote Down the Wrong Amount, could you please wire back the Balance.

2) Fake Cheque Scam, but all of Sudden because of Illness or a Death, we HAVE TO CANCELL our Travel Plans.
Please remit our funds as Soon as possible.
And they want the funds sent by Western Union no doubt.
And no doubt they will be in a Hurry, and want their money back before the Cheque is Cleared.

3) was Thinking of Stolen Credit Card with the same sort of excuses, but have doubts on the CC side.

My train of thought Fake Cheque Scam
