![]() I'm new to this, so if I didn't put this post in the correct place, please do let me know. Anyway, I received a snail mail letter today from someone named Kirsten Hart. She claims that she is part of a secret society and that I have been specially chosen to be part of this society. If I fax back the invitation she sent me, she will send, for free, a 56 page book telling me how I can get everything I want out of life. I, of course, immediately Googled her. This letter scam shows up on ripoffreport.com and pissedconsumer.com, but I did not see any mention of it in the forums here so I thought I would let everyone know that it is a SCAM. I'm not sure what the scam is exactly. My understanding is that 'she' sends enough of this supposed special book just to get you interested and then you have to pay for the rest of the book. I immediately caught that this was a scam. After being scammed recently, I have learned to Google everything! However, this could really appeal to someone who is very vulnerable and in a bad space in life. The fact that someone would prey on vulnerable people really makes me mad. Final point, there have been many books written in recent years about the Law of Attraction or how to attract the things you want. If this is something that interests anyone do yourself a favor and buy a legit book from a bookstore or Amazon, do not respond to someone sending you a letter in the mail. Really final point this time, if someone is into something and they can't or won't tell you what it is-run the other way FAST. |

I went on and got the free 56-page booklet and "Yes", they stroke your ego with that too. They narrate 5 stories with the first story literally repeating the content of the first letter they sent you. They also insist that there is a secret message within that 56-page booklet and that your sub-consciousness will pick it up. All you have to do for the second, and final, stage is pay $200 bucks for a 680 page book. See what I'm getting at? So you were basically right mb13. I too thought that this was a scam and it is because the initial letter said they would give you these so-called secrets free of charge. All their doing is stroking egos and hoping people will bite the bait. I have a special power already and that is common sense coupled with the almighty Google Search Bar.

I didn't notice the difference in names when I got the initial letter telling me how special I was, etc etc., so I sent off for the 56-page booklet with the 5 stories some of you have mentioned. Nothing special happened to ME in the next 2--3 weeks, as promised. But I DID receive an invoice saying I was getting a SPECIAL discounted price for the 1200 page, 2300-year-old book of only $139.99. As I'm on SS Disability, that's a lot of money. Of course it said I had to reply by a certain date or I'd lose out on my "second stage" BS. Funniest thing, I next got a notice that I was SO EXTRA SPECIAL they were assigning me to a TOP MEMBER as a MENTOR! (I'm laughing now, so it's hard to type.)
I still didn't send them the $140. Then I got a notice saying "they" couldn't understand why I hadn't sent in my money, and my "second stage" had almost gone by, so they were giving me a NEW special of 1/3 of the BIG BOOK, at $49.99. Of course, after I got that later I'd have to send $50 and then another $50 to get the other 2/3! I called these people. Tell me why an "exclusive" "secret" society, that carefully chooses very special people would have a customer service line to take orders? And when I questioned the discrepancies in the urgency of sending my money to get "the book", they referred me to another number where I'd....gasp.....speak to an actual member! Only I got a recording saying someone would call me back in 24 hours. Well, they did. And he told me "they" really wanted me to come into the secret group, I was incredibly special, they'd reviewed my "file" and found I was even more special than "they'd" originally thought! My, my, and here I thought I was just like everybody else, LOL! Needless to say, it's obvious they are making their money off gullible people. I figured that if even 100,000 people paid the $139.99, "they" would have made FOURTEEN MILLION DOLLARS! And think about it, 100,000 people could easily fall for this and send in that money. Then I hear from another site that after you pay the $139.99 and get the BIG BOOK, you then start getting hit up for $99.00 for another book, on and on..... I think I'll pass..... |

mb13, the "scam" is that when desperate and gullible people send in $139.99 for the big book after they get the teaser 56-page BS book that tells you NOTHING, "they" (whoever they or he or she are/is) are making some BIG MONEY! As I noted above, if even 100,000 people sent in that much, it would mean $14 million to someone. And think about it, 100,000 people wouldn't be that hard to reach if they sent this letter to millions.
Hey, maybe I could send out a letter with a new society of my own.....hmmm, maybe I COULD get really rich after all, just as "they" promised...... ROFL! ![]() |

Did anyone out there actually buy the book or know someone who did? I received the letter and saw it as a scam, but I'm curious and if I was someone who actually had money to blow I would buy it just to see what it contained and then notify people of it being a scam. Everything I read are from people who haven't actually purchased it but as we all know the internet isn't all truth either, many things circulate via e-mail, internet that are not in fact true.

Not one person here is complaining about what they received. Nobody spent a nickel, in their wisdom. Nobody is complaining about getting ripped off. Since there are no legitimate complaints, then it just must be a belief system at work as opposed to empirical evidence.
I noticed the first post was from July of 1988. One of the posters does the math, and figures if 100,000 people were conned, that would be worth $14 million to the scammers. However, I am unable to find even one person, on this board or similar ones, who actually complain about what they received. The boards are filled with people who were smart enough to not send any money. This, then, could be a very bad scam - nobody is biting, and there is no $14 million floating around. Or else, nobody has a complaint. I sent my money yesterday. My mentor was anonymous, but other than that it was obviously the same. Last edited by freedman; 12-08-2009 at 10:55 PM. |
