Dallas Puppy Scam
The Dallas Puppy Scam is actually a Nigerian scam. It works like this. The target responds to an e-mail or classified ad for “free” puppies, often purebreds. When they contact the supposed puppy owner they’re informed that someone, in some cases a Christian missionary, has adopted that dogs and taken them to Nigeria. This person has found, however, that he doesn’t have time to care for the dog(s), and will give them to anyone willing to pay the “shipping fees” (and whatever other phony charges they can thing of) to get them out of Nigeria. They’ll only accept Western Union payments, of course.
It’s all hogwash. The target pays once or twice, anywhere from $300 to thousands and no puppy is ever forthcoming. There are no puppies, and the person offering them from and address in Dallas, Texas or wherever is just another scammer, in league with Nigerian counterparts, or operating out of Niger themselves. |
