Prepaid Legal offers a service which allows customers to subscribe to a legal services plan that gives them access to advice (over the phone) and discounted hourly rates with a lawyer at a law firm for a fixed monthly fee.
Some of Pre-paid Legal's members switch to selling Pre-Paid's Plan. It's called multi-level marketing. A multi-level marketing, or MLM, is considered by some people to be a kind of scam that is based on pyramid schemes or network sales, and works like a chain letter. Those who participate in MLM's often loose money because they end up buying sales aids like motivational tapes, and have difficulty keeping up with overly ambitious sales quotas.
Multi-level Marketing is not a crime. There is some question, however, concerning the ethical ramifications of using the MLM business strategy. Anyone interested in participating in an MLM should do thorough research before fully committing. |
