Question E-mail soliciting services for overdue loan payment

Does anybody know if this is fraudulent?

Quote:
I am requiring the services of your firm in the possible litigation of an overdue loan payment from an individual that resides in your state. I gave him a business loan for $350,000 in 2009(February 4th to be precise).

The terms for the loan was for 12months, with an annual interest rate of 7.85%. The loan matured on February 4th, 2010 and since then, He has only paid $50,000 after I sent him the demand letter 10 days after maturity. He still owes $300,000 plus the accrued interest on the capital. Please let me know if this is an area of practice/experience, so that I can send you additional information regarding this matter. Please write me back on [e-mail address omitted]
Thanks!

Default Scams aimed at lawyers and other professionals.

@kb2003 welcome to 419 legal.
We would need more information (like copies of the emails with headers) to answer fully.

However it seems to be one of the scams that are aimed at law firms and other professionals in the USA and some other countries recently.

Anther one asks about a divorced wife requiring assistance in receiving the balance of an agreed amount from her ex.
We have sent notices to many law associations to warn their members but they seem reluctant to do so and just allow their members to be caught.

You can find a lot of information about this scam including examples on AFI, the site in the blue link in my signature.
It certainly exhibits many of the hallmarks of a scam.

Default I received it too

We just received an identical request, word for word at my place of work, so that confirms the scam.

Cheers
