Beware of Pyramid Schemes
By Greg Abbott Attorney General of Texas The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA) prohibits pyramid promotional schemes. The DTPA defines a pyramid as a plan or operation by which a person gives consideration for the opportunity to receive compensation that is derived primarily from a person's introduction of other persons to participate in the plan or operation, rather than from the sale of a product. |

@JerseyGirl1987 Thank you for your post, but what you state is impossible for a company to do and still stay in business! the object of any business is to make money not lose it!
They MAY??? be able to buy vacations below wholesale and sell at wholesale, but it would send them bankrupt in a short time if they lost on every deal! Unless they are making more money by charging fee's to their clients? if so this would put them in the pyramid scene? Quote:

Speaking of Acorn, in particular the tax advice Acorn Representatives were videotaped giving a posed prostitute and pimp on how to commit tax fraud....
The gentleman that gave the presentation for WorldVentures that I attended stated being a WorldVentures Representative gives you tax advantages such as he writes off his meal expenses when he goes to expensive restaurants like DelFrisco, 3-Forks, and so on. He says he frequents those restaurants often (as they quality may change) and writes the meals off of his taxes because he claims he is in the travel industry and it is necessary for him to be fluent on which steakhouse in Dallas offers the best steak. Is there a CPA out there that could tell me if that is a legitimate and legal tax write off? |

Well, this is interesting. The WorldVenture's Representative made claims of tax benefits at the presentation I attended last week.
Just now, I ran across this article titled "YTB's travel pryamid collapsing" YTB FINED $1 MILLION BY CALIFORNIA, ILLINOIS SUES FOR $500 MILLION Your mother probably told you that if something is too good to be true, it probably is. Mom always offers good advice. Listen to it. Over the past few years, you may been approached by a company called YTB (Your Travel Biz) about a business opportunity where you are told that you can travel like an insider, make a ton of money when your friends book their travel through your website and reap incredible tax deductions all along the way. |

Am I to understand that WorldVenture Representatives are committed to the same monthly fee throughout the length of the contract, but WorldVentures can change the compensation plan at anytime - without notice???
That is what I'm being told by another WorldVentures rep. That when this started in 2007, Representatives received $200 a sale, then it went to $100, then down to $50 and now it is $20. Oh, and by the way, the contract handed out at the initial WorldVentures presentation DOES NOT include the compensation plan. You agree to the compensation plan, but you are not provided it to read. It's posted on their website - and according to the WV rep I'm talking to, has changed TWICE in the last TWO months ! How is someone supposed to make an educated decision when they aren't even provided with the entire contract prior to be requested to sign it? This compensation plan they don't hand you at the meeting, but is included as part of the contract - is 28 pages long. |

The presentation I attended for WorldVentures led me to believe the income I could make was (and I quote) "Up to Infinity!". Yet, their Detailed Compensation Plan has maximum payouts. Which is it?
