Internet ID Card: Personal tool from Siemens IT Solutions and Services and AXSionics promises to curb online con!
An interesting gadget was unveiled by Siemens IT Solutions together with AXSionics, a Swiss Company to secure online transactions against scams. The card can be useful to prevent scams like phishing and identity theft. Such scams employ stolen data like bank account numbers and credit card numbers to fraudulently buy or transfer funds online. The internet is witnessing a startling growth in fraud of this nature.
The Anti Scam Card
It is as small as a credit card or an ATM card making it personal and easy to carry along. The card is said to be compatible for use with common laptops and personal computers. It would not require any additional software or hardware to run.
The card uses fingerprints to verify online transactions. A transaction involving bank accounts, for instance, would require digital impression of fingerprints of the account holder to be sent through the card to authenticate it.
Fingerprints of either hand can be used for this purpose. Print of a particular finger, in fact, can be fed to set off an alarm in an emergency. This could be useful in situations like a hold up where thieves may be forcing a user to transfer funds out of their accounts. By quietly using this fingerprint, the user can trigger an alarm to online banks who would, then, only pretend to go through with the particular transaction.
The card is scheduled to be launched this summer and it would be interesting to see if the card is able to match the expectations it has generated. Presently, it is undergoing live testing with banks in Germany and Switzerland.
