ThreatSeeker to help Websense products grow more teeth
Websense web security products will soon have a distinct edge over its competitors. The company unveiled the pioneering ‘HoneyGrid Network’ last month and claimed this will take Websense products to a new level in the industry. The system uses advanced computing grid technology and ‘honeypots’ to make instant scans on the internet which would help uncover online attacks before they cause much harm.
The new feature adds another layer of security to ordinary security systems. It is built to block attacks and prevent them from entering the network. The new system is claimed to be capable of analyzing 1 billion items of content using a network of 50 million systems. It is said to be capable of scanning 40 million websites in one hour.
Set to improve existing Websense products
The company has products that cover email security, online security and ones that prevent data theft. The network scans for suspicious patterns in net activity and passes it onto researchers at the Websense Security Labs. The researchers analyze the threats marked to them by the system and ascertain whether they are malicious or not.
The honeypots are the basic and most important element of the system. These are undercover networks that study how hackers attack the system by allowing them in. The hackers will remain unaware, at all times, of the true intent of the network.
Honeypots help researchers to study vulnerabilities and weak points of a network. They use such knowledge later to make the network more robust against hackers.
With this launch, the company claims that Websense products will be the fastest to get updated online. This way it ensures the security of a network will be best prepared at all times to meet any internet challenge. If the new system lives up to expectations, then competitors like McAfee and Symantec will have something to worry about.
