European travelers warned of Holiday Club Scams

Heading off for a vacation in Europe? A report from a Scottish newspaper warns you to be wary of fraudsters out to take tourists for a ride. The popular scam tries to sell gullible holiday makers an outrageously expensive club service that they could have easily obtained from their travel agent.

The warning is timely as a lot of tourists are expected to visit destinations like Spain and other popular spots this time of the year. The scam approaches tourists and offers them a scratch card adding they can scratch and avail of any prize shown up on the card.

Tourists who bite and scratch will be bewildered to find they are among the chosen few to win a ticket to a mystifyingly titled presentation. The presentation turns out to be nothing but a hard sell to force on buyers the membership of a bogus holiday club. The scam will do all to thrust the exclusive membership worth a few thousand pounds down the throats of a trapped audience.

People who bought into the offer say they got little more than access to an internet booking service; a service they could have easily got elsewhere.

Victims are losing an average of £3,000 individually to the scam. Also, every year, the scam is known to net millions of pounds from visiting tourists.
