eBillme Study reveals concerns over fraud still torment online consumers

With so many online payment options now available, all claiming to be one up over the others, if you are still worried while making payments online, then here is some consolation. A Jupiter Research report funded for an online payment company has found, 81% of people may share your dilemma.
This goes to show, even the latest in online shopping technology does nothing to make people safe while making payments online. Perceived online shopping risks still puts off consumers like you and me from spending as freely as we would like to.
Risks of online shopping not mitigated
The study came up with the following stats. It showed:
- 81% of customers still concerned enough about fraud prevention to value it more than any other feature of an online payment service.
- 56-60 percent value guarantees for products and services more.
- 45-50% are more concerned with price.
- Only 17% bother enough about reward schemes offered by online payment systems to want it more than anything else.
The report also raises an alarm over making payments through credit or debit cards by finding 68% of consumers unaware of their liabilities in case their identities are misused.
Online payments systems like eBillme, POLi or eWise are good for online retailers. It takes them out of the credit loop offered by credit card companies to their customers and gets them sure, immediate payment.
But they do not seem to do much good to online shoppers as online shopping risks perceptions show no signs of abating. Customers still feel these services as wanting in terms of security as they continue to make them vulnerable to identity theft. As of now, there appears to be no lasting remedy against identity theft when you are shopping online apart from being in a constant state of high alert.
And maybe, that’s the way it’s going to be, even in the future…

Big difference between the two, wouldn’t you agree?
I admire Mr. DeWalt a great deal, have never met him or talked to him, but to see him misquoted, is something I could not overlook. Also, it is a small item, but you mentioned it was in an article - and I beleive it was in a “blog”, not a formal article… Just having some fun with you on that one.
