Bank of Lancaster County Phishing Scam
Fraudsters are strategically targeting customers of the Bank of Lancaster County with a phishing scam this week. They are calling customers and telling them their card has been locked, suspended or its security compromised. The customers are then asked to call up a 515- area code phone number to set things right.
The timing is noteworthy. The bank is in the midst of a management transition after PNC Financial Services Group took it over this April. Customers had been sent new PNC debit and credit cards in preparation of the changeover. They were advised that their accounts will be accessible using the new cards effective August 8. By sending an email to the bank’s customers at this point, the fraudsters were seeking to create confusion and take advantage from it.
Those who received the call say it is easy to make out the scam; the caller has a funny way of pronouncing the word ‘Lancaster’ when she introduces herself.
Besides telephone calls, the scam is also visiting upon people through text messages and emails.

I just received a call on my cell phone with the return number as 714. It was automated and said my card was being suspended. ( I don not have a card or account with the Bank of Lancaster County). The message said to set it right call 315-292-6820.

@ Anonymous….
315- …hmmm… If I am not mistaken then this area code belongs to Syracuse, New York.
Thanks for the info!
Best Wishes!

I too received a call on my cell phone with a display number of 714 showing. A voicemail was left stating the same (that my card was being suspended), and to return the call at 315-292-6820. Strangely, when I searched for this number on the internet it came up as a fax number for a business.

This kind of thing gives me the creeps. I don’t want to believe that I could or would fall for it, but smart people get scammed all the time. Good for you all that you didn’t get scammed.
